Your best bet may be to take a trip down memory lane. Strike up a conversation with this guy. Remind him of something that happened in your first grade class, ask him about the town he's recently moved from, or what he missed most about your town when he moved away. Such questions should help to break the ice. It can be awkward approaching someone you've lost contact with, but don't get discouraged. Hopefully, he'll be as interested in what has happened in your life as you are in his!
