WHAT: When this drama about a charismatic teacher who arrives to shake up a conservative New England prep school was released in 1989, teen girls everywhere fell in love. Watch this Oscar-winning movie, and you will too.
Robin Williams plays John Keating, a progressive English teacher who encourages his students to embrace their individuality and seize the day. The boys take Mr. Keating's words to heart and develop their own secret society, called the "Dead Poets." Soon Neil (Robert Sean Leonard) is pursuing his dream of acting despite his father's disapproval, Knox (Josh Charles) is courting the unattainable girl of his dreams and Todd (Ethan Hawke) is struggling to find his true voice. But some people at the school aren't too thrilled with Mr. Keating's teaching style, and their oppressive ideas threaten to destroy the hopes and dreams of both Mr. Keating and his students.
Not only is this flick chock full of cute boys walking the halls in sexy prep-school uniforms and rough housing in their rugby gear, but the acting and storytelling are amazing. Dead Poets Society is amusing, inspiring, and heartbreaking. No wonder girls of the 80s couldn't get enough of it. Now it's your turn.
